Tianhe has set an ambitious goal to build an international optics valley, making it a new growth driver for its biomedicine and health industry, said Duan Dehai, the district's acting head.

Duan made the remarks at an event to launch the first batch of major application scenarios in Guangzhou on Oct 22, when introducing the district's plan to build an eye care industry cluster, known as "the international optics valley".

Spanning 1.4 square kilometers in a prime location with excellent transport links, the valley aims to establish a global hub for ophthalmic innovation, a premier site for transformation of research achievements in medical-engineering integration, and an international platform for open cooperation in the eye care industry, Duan said.

Duan emphasized the district's commitment to creating a billion-dollar eye care ecosystem by building platforms for research and innovation, accelerating clinical trials and technological commercialization, and integrating global resources to support market expansion.

"Eye care is both a public need and a golden opportunity for industrial development," Duan said, inviting enterprises and research teams to join Tianhe in pioneering the future of the eye care industry.
