In the first half of 2026, Tianhe district registered a regional GDP of 373.628 billion yuan ($55.36 billion), up 6.3 percent year-on-year at constant prices.

Breakdown by industry: value added of the primary industry reached 30 million yuan, a year-on-year drop of 18.0 percent; value added of the secondary industry hit 26.534 billion yuan, rising 7.6 percent year-on-year; value added of the tertiary industry stood at 347.065 billion yuan, an increase of 6.2 percent year-on-year.

Tianhe secured the top spot in Guangzhou across a series of core indicators: total economic output, contribution to the city's economic growth, growth rate of fixed-asset investment, total tax revenue, number of newly established enterprises and newly added industrial enterprises above designated size.

In the first half of the year, value added of core industries of the digital economy in Tianhe rose by 8.5 percent, accounting for 22.7 percent of its GDP. Specifically, value added of digital technology application industries grew by 8.5 percent, while that of digital factor-driven industries climbed 6.9 percent. Value added of the financial sector increased by 9.3 percent, value added of industrial enterprises above designated size rose 8.1 percent, and value added of the artificial intelligence industry posted an 8.1 percent growth.

During the six-month period, Tianhe attracted three 10-billion-yuan-level projects and 131 investment projects in total. Newly filed investment projects involved a planned investment of 33.4 billion yuan, while newly signed investment projects carried an expected investment of 89.1 billion yuan. A total of 79,700 new enterprises were registered in Tianhe, lifting the district's total number of enterprises to 777,000. The district welcomed 395 new industrial enterprises above designated size, a surge of 25.8 percent year-on-year. The number of new enterprises was the highest of any district in Guangzhou, making up 14.6 percent of the city's total.

Total retail sales of consumer goods in Tianhe reached 112.69 billion yuan in the first half of the year, growing by 4.9 percent and accounting for 19.5 percent of Guangzhou's aggregate figure. By consumption category, sales of commodities by enterprises above designated size increased by 6.7 percent, and catering turnover of such enterprises rose 9.8 percent. In terms of business formats, online consumption potential continued to expand, with online retail sales of physical goods by designated-size entities jumping 28.5 percent, and online catering revenue registering a 21.6 percent uptick.

Adopting a targeted project campaign approach, Tianhe ensured all 46 newly launched projects for the first half kicked off as scheduled and pushed ahead with accelerated construction of 227 ongoing projects. The 73 municipal key projects under the district's jurisdiction recorded a 69.5 percent investment completion rate in the first six months, 19.5 percentage points ahead of the scheduled progress.
