New energy project breaks ground in Guangzhou Financial City
Tianhe held a groundbreaking ceremony for the East 1 Station of a central cooling system, part of the comprehensive energy project of Guangzhou Financial City.
With a total cooling capacity exceeding 200,000 refrigeration tons and an investment of 3.2 billion yuan ($471 million), the energy project includes eight central cooling stations and various energy facilities such as energy storage, photovoltaics, charging stations, heat pumps, and small wind power.
It employs a smart energy control system to ensure precise matching between energy supply and demand, as well as efficient energy utilization.
The East 1 Station, covering 7,804 square meters, will use mature electric cooling and water ice storage technology, providing a cooling capacity of about 23,500 refrigeration tons. With an investment of 520 million yuan, it plans to lay two cooling pipelines, each 1,650 meters long, and is expected to be operational by the second half of 2028.
By integrating large-scale efficient refrigeration units with optimized storage and distribution systems, the project significantly surpasses traditional air conditioning systems in energy efficiency, contributing to energy conservation and carbon reduction. Once completed, it will ensure stable cooling for key buildings in the East Zone of the financial city with a green and low-carbon infrastructure.
