Tianhe district GDP up 6.5% in Q1, fastest in 4 years
Guangzhou's Tianhe district announced its economic performance for the first quarter of this year on April 23, reporting a gross regional product of 197.116 billion yuan ($28.8 billion), up 6.5 percent year on year at constant prices.
This growth rate is the highest since the first quarter of 2022, accounting for 26.3 percent of the city's overall growth. Key indicators, including economic output, tax revenue, fixed asset investment growth, and the number of newly established enterprises, ranked first among all districts in Guangzhou.
Tianhe's pillar industries showed robust momentum, with several sectors achieving double-digit growth. The financial sector saw a 9.5 percent increase to 49.9 billion yuan. The software industry grew 11.6 percent, generating 41.14 billion yuan in revenue. The gaming and artificial intelligence sectors posted impressive growth of 19.2 percent and 11.9 percent, respectively. Telecommunications grew 15.9 percent, while high-end professional services and technology services grew 11.1 percent and 28 percent, respectively.
Retail sales climbed 8.6 percent to 61.27 billion yuan, with auto retail surging 50.1 percent. Fixed asset investment reached 17.45 billion yuan, a 30.3 percent increase, the highest in the city, with Guangzhou International Financial City soaring 87.2 percent.
