Guangdong City Football Super League kicks off in spectacular fashion
The 2026 Guangdong City Football Super League, an amateur event bringing together teams from all 21 cities in the province, kicked off on April 25 with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Yuexiushan Stadium in Guangzhou.

The half-hour event was rich with Guangdong elements, featuring the province's unofficial anthem "Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies", and appearances by several legendary football players from Guangdong, alongside the beloved mascots of the 15th National Games, "Xiyangyang" and "Lerongrong".

The ceremony unfolded in three acts: "Cantonese Rhythms", "Cantonese Shadows" and "Cantonese Colors", highlighting the unity and spirit of Guangdong football. It began with a musical performance of "A Man Should Stand Strong" as four colorful dragons and 10 lions took the stage.
Prominent figures like world table tennis champion Lin Gaoyuan and Guangdong singer Liao Huan led a rendition of "Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies", sparking a stadium-wide sing-along. Football legends Rong Zhixing, Ou Weiting, Mai Chao, Ou Chuliang and Lu Lin received thunderous applause as they passed the football to a young player, symbolizing the legacy of Guangdong football.
Teams from 21 cities showcased their unique cultural heritage through various performances, culminating in Guangzhou's vibrant entry, which featured Cantonese Opera.
