Design unveiled for 2026 Tianhe Flower Fair archway
The archway for the Tianhe Spring Festival Flower Fair, an annual event held in celebration of the Chinese New Year in Tianhe, has won acclaim due to its unique design combining modern urban technology with elements of traditional culture.
Inspired by the historical gate towers at Tianhe Sports Center's South Plaza, the archway's wings extend symmetrically along the city's central axis. Adorned with illuminated eaves that resemble a bird's wings in flight, the design embodies a spirit of dynamism and progress.
At its heart, the archway features the "flying horse" sculpture, a celebration of the current Year of the Horse. This design, resembling both calligraphic strokes and rolling waves, symbolizes Tianhe's ties to the Pearl River. Sixty-six vibrant red kapok flowers crown the composition, representing vitality and honor.
The archway's design harmoniously merges traditional aesthetics with modern technology, using soft membrane lightboxes and dynamic LED lighting. In the daytime, it exudes elegance, while at night, it dazzles with radiant brilliance. Programmable LED strips within the eaves animate the structure, reflecting the district's innovative spirit.
