Tianhe expands healthcare network with 221 new institutions
On Jan 20, Guangzhou's Tianhe district released a report on the development of its healthcare system. Over the past five years, Tianhe added 221 medical institutions, bringing the total to 1,091, a 25.4 percent increase since 2020.
The number of tertiary hospitals grew by 40 percent, while secondary hospitals increased from 15 to 29. Additionally, 193 new community clinics and medical offices were established.
Tianhe has been optimizing the distribution of medical resources by advancing key healthcare projects. Major facilities currently under construction, including the Sun Yat-sen University Medical Oncology Scientific Center, the Zhuji branch of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and the Changxing branch of the Guangdong Orthopedics Academy, are on track to complete their main structures before the 2026 Spring Festival.

Tianhe currently provides 7.66 hospital beds, 5.48 licensed doctors, and 6.90 registered nurses per 1,000 residents, all above the provincial average. The district has also set up 49 vaccination sites to form a “15-minute vaccination circle” and offers tailored health services for key groups such as the elderly, children, and pregnant women.
The expansion and improvement of medical resources mark a major step forward in Tianhe's efforts to improve its public service system, aiming to deliver more balanced and accessible healthcare to residents.
