Tianhe sets sights on 2026 after year of steady progress
On Jan 19, the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress was convened, outlining key municipal priorities for 2026. The city plans to turn Tianhe district into a central driver of high-quality economic growth.
Last year, Tianhe played a vital role in supporting the 15th National Games by hosting the opening ceremony and several major events. The district also advanced its urban renewal initiatives, with the Xiancun redevelopment project now serving as a practical model for citywide urban regeneration.
Tianhe's industrial strength was recently put on display when its Central Business District ranked third nationally. In 2025, the district attracted 246 high-quality investment projects, including six valued at over 10 billion yuan ($1.43 billion) each. Aligning with Guangzhou's green development strategy of building a park-integrated urban system around the South China National Botanical Garden, Tianhe has also progressed steadily in ecological initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2026, Tianhe will focus on developing artificial intelligence industrial parks and the Redtory Smart Space, accelerating digital economy innovation, and advancing plans for a national-level data industrial cluster. The district will also enrich the immersive smart offerings at the Haixinsha Omni-Space Intelligent Experience Center.
In addition, Tianhe will strive to be designated as a national high-tech zone, enhance the Guangzhou International Financial City as a key financial hub, and improve urban resilience through projects such as the Longdong Modern Grain Depot, a smart storage and logistics facility.
