Special Games' athletics kick off in Tianhe

The athletics events of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games kicked off on Dec 9 at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center in Tianhe.

Lasting until Dec 14, the athletics events at this year's Special Games have attracted the most delegations and athletes, with the widest range of categories, classes, and sub-events. At 9:30 am the same day, competitions began, with 52 gold medals awarded throughout the day.

Jiang Yanhong from the Guangdong team claimed victory with a time of 14.99 seconds in the Women's 100m T64 Final, getting the team off to a triumphant start. Another Guangdong athlete, Yin Jiaxin, secured second place in the event.

After the race, Jiang expressed her disbelief and excitement, stating that she didn't think too much during the race and just focused on pushing forward.

This was Jiang's first time participating in the Special Games. She expressed satisfaction with her 14.99-second performance and hopes to break the 14.50-second mark in future competitions.
