Table tennis event for National Games held in Tianhe
The amateur table tennis competition, part of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, was held at the gymnasium of Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports in Tianhe district from Sept 7 to 9.
A total of 109 athletes from 20 teams nationwide participated in the competition. In a remarkable achievement, Zhang Yueqin and Sun Fengxia secured second place in the Women's Doubles Wheelchair category for athletes with physical disabilities, earning the first medal for the Guangdong team.

To facilitate athletes with disabilities, the Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports provided new barrier-free facilities and a fully streamlined barrier-free system. The venue was also equipped with sign language interpreters and translation robots, embodying the district's commitment to being "humane, systematic, and intelligent".
A team of 238 volunteers served in a variety of roles, including competition, reception, medical, and media services, providing enthusiastic guidance and support.
Medical support was also robust, with five hospitals, nine medical stations, five ambulances, and a team of 35 medical professionals offering personalized services tailored to the needs of special groups.
