SCNU rugby team wins national championship
The South China Normal University (SCNU) rugby team, based in Tianhe district, Guangzhou, won the 2025 National Collegiate Rugby Sevens Tournament, securing the school's first national championship. This milestone represents the highest achievement ever in SCNU's rugby history.
Rugby is a sport that integrates strength, speed, bravery, and strategic thinking. The rugby sevens format is an official event in the Olympic Games, Asian Games, and China's National Games.
In the final game, SCNU competed against Southwest Petroleum University and secured a clear victory with a score of 38 to 12.

The SCNU rugby team was founded on Jan 3, 2019, and reorganized in March 2023. It is the first university team from Guangdong province to compete in national professional rugby tournaments.
The team's coach, Liu Ruizhi, a former member of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) rugby team, said, "It's an honor to progress alongside these young men.
Having observed every stage of their growth and transformation, Liu expressed his hope that more people will learn about rugby, helping this emerging team continue to succeed at SCNU.
