Tianhe emerges as financial hub in Greater Bay Area
Tianhe district in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province, has solidified its position as the city's financial industry's epicenter, boasting the highest concentration and strong vitality, and standing as the city's primary pillar industry.
It has positioned itself as a leading headquarters and financial center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
In 2024, the added value of the financial industry in Tianhe district reached more than 156 billion yuan ($21.6 billion), marking a 4.1 percent growth and accounting for over 20 percent of the district's GDP.
Leveraging the Tianhe Central Business District and the Guangzhou International Financial City, the district is trying to drive the development of financial industry clusters, with the current number of licensed financial institutions totaling 298.
Key financial platforms in Tianhe district include the Guangzhou Futures Exchange, the Guangdong Digital Financial Innovation Industrial Park, the Greater Bay Area (Tianhe) Wealth Management Center, and the Guangzhou International Financial City.
In 2024, the district succeeded in the first cross-border data verification service for enterprises and individuals through the "Yue Xin Rong" initiative. In January 2025, the district launched the financial supermarket series to bridge financial institutions and enterprises needing financing, followed by the introduction of specialized policies to support financial services for real economy development in February.
