Tianhe Smart City: A hub of innovation and growth in Guangzhou
Tianhe Smart City, a strategic development platform in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province, has stood as a testament to Guangzhou's commitment to fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and creating a vibrant ecosystem that nurtures talent and accelerating technological advancements.
Built upon the Tianhe Science and Technology Park and Tianhe Software Park, this ambitious project covers 78.2 square kilometers.
After over 30 years of development, it has nurtured five major industrial clusters that form the backbone of its thriving economy. These clusters include the billion-dollar industries of next-generation information technology, digital consumption, smart cities, intelligent connected vehicles, modern urban industrial sectors, and more. In 2024, Tianhe Science and Technology Park recorded a staggering total revenue exceeding 330 billion yuan ($45.6 billion). Tianhe Software Park contributed over 170 billion yuan to the city's economy, representing a quarter of Guangzhou's total.
Focused on crafting a modern industrial ecosystem, the smart city emphasizes the growth of software and internet technologies, artificial intelligence, smart equipment, robotics, intelligent connected vehicles, and the burgeoning low-altitude economy. It sets the stage for future industries such as embodied intelligence, unmanned systems, future networks, quantum technologies, new materials, and more.
With over 2,500 technology-driven companies, the smart city has become a magnet for talent, hosting 26 higher education institutions and 202 municipal-level engineering and technical research centers. It has attracted over 40 academicians and a diverse pool of 300,000 innovative talents.
