Tianhe district of Guangzhou will speed up its construction of 80 road transportation projects costing 68 billion yuan ($9.35 billion) this year, aiming to build a new "six horizontal and seven vertical" road network.
The plan was revealed recently by Huang Xinfeng, director of the district bureau housing and landscaping development, at the district's high-quality development conference.

The focus will be on promoting the construction of 19 projects including Lingcen Road – striving for the completion and opening of 15 projects, such as Huolu Mountain Tunnel and 26 kilometers of main roads.
Tianhe will leverage its role as a host – along with Hong Kong and Macao – of the upcoming 15th National Games in November. As such, it will further promote wide-ranging environmental improvement in its urban areas and landscaping and beautification along its high-speed roads.
Efforts will also be made to extend the reform of the approvals system for engineering construction projects, streamline approvals processes, improve advisory services, and promote overall business development.
In addition, Tianhe will advance the renovation and improvement of the remaining 23 urban villages in the district – ensuring it will reach its target of completing urban renewal fixed asset investment of 35 billion yuan and special loan expenditure of 5 billion yuan in the current year.
