Tianhe district of Guangzhou – the capital city of South China's Guangdong province – put in a particularly strong performance in the recent finals of the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Human Resources Service Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Projects selected and sent in by Tianhe clinched one first prize, three second prizes two third prizes, and four prizes for excellence.

The competition was divided into two categories – the activation group and the integration group.

The first required participating projects to transcend conventional human resources services by showcasing breakthrough innovations in service models, concepts, and technologies.

The integration group demanded that projects demonstrate industry-leading content in integrating resource capabilities, promoting industrial cooperation, facilitating industry-education integration, and supporting employment and entrepreneurship.

Kicking off in July, the competition attracted nearly 200 project entries. These covered various subfields including staff recruitment, vocational training, compensation management, employee benefits, talent assessments, and digital solutions for human resources.

To date, Tianhe district's human resources services industry has maintained a leading and expanding development – with an average annual compound growth rate exceeding 14 percent in recent years.

By the end of 2023, Tianhe boasted of being home to 780 human resources service agencies, accounting for 32 percent of Guangzhou's total and ranking it first in quantity citywide.

It was also home to 29,311 employees in the sector, representing 48 percent of the city's total workforce in the field and ranking it first in numbers citywide.

The agencies generated a total annual operating income of 46.8 billion yuan ($6.57 billion) last year – making up 28 percent of Guangzhou's total and securing second position citywide in terms of revenue.
