On Sept 18, Guangzhou Metro announced the first public disclosure of the planning environmental impact assessment for the phase-2 Dongguan Metro Line 1, part of which will be located in Guangzhou.

According to the plan, the Dongguan Metro Line 1 will have an interchange with the Guangzhou Metro Line 5 at the Huangpu New Port Station.

The phase-2 project of the Dongguan Metro Line 1 will extend westward from the phase-1 project's Dongguan West Railway Station and connect with the Guangzhou Metro Line 5 at Huangpu New Port after entering Guangzhou.

Upon completion, Guangzhou residents will be able to reach Dongguan's central Hongfu Road Business Circle with just one transfer. In contrast, Dongguan residents will be able to access the Zhujiang New Town in Guangzhou's Tianhe district with a single interchange.

Currently, the Dongguan Metro Line 1's phase-1 project is under construction, with a total length of about 58 kilometers, running from Dongguan West Railway Station in the west to Huangjiang Central Station in the east. It is expected to open next year.
