Tianhe's GDP hits 317.7b yuan in H1

The regional gross domestic product or GDP of Tianhe district of Guangzhou – the capital of South China's Guangdong province – hit 317.7 billion yuan ($44.21 billion) in the first six months, rising 2.6 percent year-on-year.

The added value of the district's primary industry was 60 million yuan, down 51.6 percent year-on-year; but that of the secondary industry totaled 21.37 billion yuan, up 6.9 percent year-on-year and that of the tertiary industry was 296.27 billion yuan, increasing by 2.3 percent year-on-year.

From January to June, the added value of the district's modern services industry reached 236.79 billion yuan, up by 2.7 percent year-on-year and accounting for 74.5 percent of its GDP.

Strategic emerging industries – such as new-generation information technology and intelligent and new energy vehicles – enjoyed a 6.3-percent growth in their added value to reach 93.12 billion yuan during the period, making up for 29.3 percent of the district's GDP.

The added value of its digital economy core industry was 74.7 billion yuan, putting on an 8 percent spike and accounting for 23.5 percent of the district's GDP.

All in all, Tianhe's total export-import volume rose during the period by 7.4 percent to 33.08 billion yuan. The total retail sales of consumer goods hit 106.29 billion yuan, accounting for 19 percent of Guangzhou's total.

What's more, during the first half of the year, Tianhe also saw the registration of more than 50,000 new companies and 568 new business enterprises above a designated size.

Some 107 city-level key projects in the district completed investment of 21.2 billion yuan during the period – 61.2 percent of the annual target – while fixed-asset investment saw 12.1 percent growth to 34.24 billion yuan.
