Tianhe bags 11 of nation's top science awards

Tianhe district of Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province, achieved success in the 2023 State Science and Technology Awards, securing a total of 11 awards, which were recently announced in Beijing.

The awards, which constitute about 21 percent of the province's total, include two in the State Natural Science Award, two in the State Technological Invention Award, and seven in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.

The award-winning projects mainly cover the fields of biomedicine and health, advanced manufacturing, and green technology, as well as high-grade, precision, and advanced technology.

Tianhe continues to witness universities as pivotal contributors to innovation, evident by award-winning projects.

The South China University of Technology spearheaded the "key technology and application of high-efficiency luminescent glass composite fiber laser" project, recognized with a second-class prize in the State Technological Invention Award. Additionally, the South China Agricultural University contributed to four award-winning projects.

Enterprises are increasingly influential in Tianhe's scientific and technological innovation, with four participating in the award-winning projects.

For example, Poly Changda Engineering played a crucial role in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao cross-sea project, which received a first-class prize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
