The Tianhe Sports Center Stadium is going to carry out green and low-carbon renovation, becoming the nation's first near-zero carbon large-scale stadium renovation project.

It is planned to replace with high-performance exterior windows, use energy-saving glass and high-efficiency lighting luminaires, adopt an ultra-efficient air conditioning system, and apply the solar photovoltaic power generation system.

The stadium can achieve energy saving and carbon reduction of more than 45 percent, said Tan Haiyang, chief engineer at the Green and Low-carbon Design Institute of Guangzhou Design Institute Group, at the launching ceremony for the 2024 Guangzhou Building Energy Conservation Publicity Month on June 14.

Tan added that the green and low-carbon renovation of the Tianhe stadium will help the 15th National Games achieve carbon neutrality.

The 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and 9th National Special Olympics Games will be jointly hosted by Guangdong province, Hong Kong, and Macao special administrative regions in 2025.
