Chinese urban air mobility company EHang recently delivered its EH216-S passenger-carrying pilotless eVTOL aircraft to Guangzhou Heli Intelligent in Tianhe district. The company bought the aircraft via a live streaming room on Alibaba Group's online marketplace Taobao.

This marks the world's first online purchase of an eVTOL aircraft.

In early April, the EH216-S aircraft received the first-ever production certificate to be granted in the global eVTOL industry from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Previously, it had obtained the type certificate and the airworthiness certificate from the CAAC.

The aircraft boasts a length of 6.05 meters, a width of 5.73 meters, and a height of 1.93 meters, and has a maximum flight range of 30 kilometers and a maximum speed of 130 km per hour.

"Millions of people witnessed the online purchase of the world's first EH216-S eVTOL aircraft in the Taobao livestreaming room, opening up new possibilities for the commercial development of the low-altitude economy," said He Tianxing, vice president of EHang.

He also expressed his hopes that more application scenarios and future development of eVTOL aircraft will be showcased to consumers so that the public can better understand the changes that the low-altitude economy will bring to consumption, and so that new quality productive forces can benefit the lives of more people.

Zhang Yi, president of Heli Intelligent, noted that the online transaction was an important milestone, promoting the formation of a closed-loop commercial system in the low-altitude economy.
