The award ceremony of the sixth Guangzhou Female Maker (Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Creation) Contest recently took place at the International Guangzhou Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Tianhe Base.

The contest attracted more than 150 enterprises involved in fields like biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and new materials to participate in. Among them, 42 stood out and carried off a prize.

Compared with other innovation and entrepreneurship contests, the female maker contest has its unique features, said Ling Shiting, general manager of the Technology Credit Department at the Greater Bay Area Scientific and Technological Innovation Service Center.

"By creating a stage for female entrepreneurs, we can first unlock the full potential of women," Ling added. "As for the second part, during the evaluation process, the stage concentrates on the four aspects, namely innovation leadership, entrepreneurial quality, social value, and economic benefit."

A roundtable discussion was also carried out during the ceremony. Xie Xin, vice chairman of the China Women's Association for Science and Technology, Cao Jing, chairman of the Guangzhou Women's Association for Science and Technology, Liu Juyan, deputy general manager and chief engineer at Guangzhou Phar Holdings, Zhu Huihong, director of the Institute of Microbiology under the Guangdong Academy of Sciences, and Bao Pinhong, chairman of the Guangzhou Medical Women's Association discussed women's role, challenges and opportunities in the high-quality development.
