Report reviews Tianhe's work in 2023

The fourth session of the 10th Tianhe District People's Congress kicked off in Guangzhou's Tianhe district on March 18, with District Head Chen Jianrong delivering the government work report.

The district's GDP reached 655.13 billion yuan ($91.24 billion) in 2023, entering China's top six districts and counties. Last year, it was included in the list of China's happiest districts for the fourth time.

The added value of Tianhe's modern service industry and that of the core industry of the digital economy accounted for 71.3 percent and 22.2 percent of the district's GDP, respectively.

It finished 2023 with 215.28 billion yuan in total retail sales of consumer goods, a year-on-year increase of 6.2 percent, and the fixed-asset investment was 70.38 billion yuan, rising by 20 percent.

Last year, the Tianhe Central Business District (CBD) ranked third nationwide in the CBD competitiveness evaluation and newly added two buildings with a tax revenue of over 100 million yuan. The Tianhe Road-Zhujiang New Town business circle received over 800 million tourists, with over 1 trillion yuan in total sales.

The Tianhe Smart City and the Tianhe Intelligence Valley attracted 33 projects, each with an investment of over 100 million yuan.

Over 27,000 tech enterprises were newly registered in Tianhe in 2023, and 948 were included in the national tank for small and medium-sized tech enterprises. The district attracted 1,589 foreign-invested enterprises last year, an increase of 65.7 percent.

About 88,000 new jobs were created in the urban areas of the district, and 480 million yuan of unemployment compensation was issued.

Besides, it built six new parks last year, added 466 mu (31.07 hectares) of urban green space, and finished the construction of 7.2-kilometer greenways.

Eleven public schools and kindergartens were newly built or renovated last year, offering over 7,300 educational seats.
