Deputy: Education should be further promoted
Hu Dong, principal of the Tianhe Foreign Language School and a deputy to the fourth session of the 16th Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress that kicked off on Jan 15, spoke highly of Guangzhou's efforts in ensuring people's livelihood.
"Over the past year, the government has increased investment in livelihood areas such as education and health care, making great efforts to create a 'happiest city of China,'" said Hu after listening to the work report at the congress.
The Tianhe district, for example, has promoted the construction of all kinds of livelihood projects and has been devoted to building itself into an education-strong district. It has been included in the list of China's happiest districts four times.
"Large medical institutions, including the Sun Yat-sen University Medical Oncology Scientific Center and the Tianhe branch of the Affiliated TCM Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, have been built in Tianhe in the past year, greatly improving the medical conditions for people," Hu added.
Hu also suggested at the congress that the government should continue investing in people's livelihood areas, build more nine-year schools, and increase the supply of high-quality education resources.
He also proposed that faculty cultivation should be further strengthened in the city to provide higher-quality and fairer education for people.
