AI can help with students' growth, deputy says
Chen Wu, principal of the Longkou West Primary School in Guangzhou's Tianhe district and a deputy to the fourth session of the 16th Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress that kicked off on Jan 15, made five suggestions at the congress.
They include establishing a long-term mechanism to promote the construction of citywide reading culture in Guangzhou; letting the intangible cultural heritage be widely passed on in Guangzhou; increasing the application of generative artificial intelligence in teaching; creating a highland for science education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; as well as improving the adolescents' mental health service system.
The AI teaching model has been introduced into the Longkou West Primary School, which allows students to use the man-machine dialog as a learning tool. "The AI models can be a powerful tool for education, but teachers' guidance is still needed to ensure the students' personal growth," Chen added.
Besides, Guangzhou should give full play to its advantages of wealthy scientific institutions, tech enterprises, and scientists to explore new ways of science education and innovative models for talent training, establishing a pattern that covers the primary and middle schools and universities and hence improving the quality of science education in primary and middle schools.
