Construction on sci-tech library underway in Tianhe

Construction on the Guangzhou Science and Technology Library is underway at the South China University of Technology in Tianhe district. So far, 15 pairs of underground walls have been completed and 26,000 cubic meters of earth excavated.

The library, which started construction in July this year, is scheduled to open to the public in September 2025. It will cover a combined floor area of 52,066 square meters and have a total investment of 797 million yuan ($109.11 million).

The library can be divided into six parts, namely compact stacks, a conference and communication area, knowledge center exhibition space, collection and reading area, innovation exchange center, and management and service area.

At the knowledge center exhibition space, exhibition halls will be set up for cultural activities, technological achievements in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the history of science and technology, intellectual property books, and building technology and art.

The library is designed to hold 2.5 million books, including 1.4 million paper documents and a large number of electronic documents. It will have 1,300 reading seats and can receive 6,000 visitors per day. It is expected to serve more than four million people.
