Guangzhou's Tianhe district recently published its first white paper on intellectual property (IP), introducing its IP development and protection efforts in 2022.

The number of authorized invention patents in the district in 2022 was 7,285, while its effective trademark registration volume was 507,649, and its work copyright registration totaled 29,038, all ranking first in Guangzhou.

The IP work plan for 2023 was also recently released, with 20 tasks to be finished and four targets to be achieved. It proposed that the number of high-value patents per 10,000 people shall exceed 60 by the end of 2023, and that the first IP securitization product under market-based operation will be generated.

According to the district's three-year action plan (2023-25), industrial enterprises above designated size should have established a standardized IP management system by 2025. During this time, the authorized number of enterprise invention patents will account for over 25 percent of the district's total authorized invention patents.

The average annual growth rate of enterprise invention patents in Tianhe should exceed 5 percent over the next three years. The total number of PCT international patent applications shall surpass 100, while the number of copyrights registered for general works and software should reach 60 per 10,000 people.

By 2025, there will be over 200 enterprises in Tianhe with valid registered trademarks, and over 20 enterprises will become national or provincial-level IP advantageous demonstration enterprises.
