Guangzhou's Tianhe district will increase its support for and encourage institutions to expand their business scope in terms of intellectual property (IP) operations, patent licensing, pledge and financing, and patent insurance this year.

These were Tianhe's chief measures to boost the high-quality development of the IP service industry, which were put forward at a recent conference in the district. Others include cultivating more high-end IP service talent, and offering more relevant training courses.

By December 2022, the number of granted patents totaled 22,034 in Tianhe, of which 7,285 were invention patents, marking a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent. The number of PCT international patent applications reached 300, accounting for 16.05 percent of Guangzhou's total, while the number of invention patents per 10,000 people hit 149.1.

The number of granted invention patents, the total number of valid invention patents, and the number of valid trademark registrations of the district all ranked first in Guangzhou.
