Preferential tax policies boost Tianhe's green development
In recent years, Guangzhou's Tianhe district has been promoting the implementation of preferential tax policies to help create a good ecological environment suitable for working, living, traveling, and recreation.
The district has been strengthening field research on key enterprises that are related to environmental protection, providing them with guidance on tax and fee reduction policies, while also pushing the transformation and upgrading of enterprises.
Guangzhou Sewage Purification is mainly responsible for the domestic sewage treatment in the central area of Guangzhou. It has built 13 large sewage treatment plants, with a total sewage treatment capacity of 4.96 million metric tons per day.
Huang Huixia, chief accountant at the company, said that Tianhe has been supporting the company's development and has taken the initiative to provide preferential policies.

"Since 2019, we have enjoyed 9.54 million yuan ($1.34 million) in value-added tax (VAT) refunds upon collection, and more than 24 million yuan in environmental protection tax has been reduced or exempted since 2021," Huang added.
"The saved funds have been invested into the addition and renovation of our sewage treatment facilities, and the current rate of capacity utilization has been greatly improved."
According to their operating conditions, type and scale, needs, as well as characteristics, Tianhe has also been customizing tax policies for enterprises.
"As we explore green development, Tianhe's policy support and considerate services have given us more assurance," said Wu Huiting, financial administrator at Guangzhou Veolia Solid Waste Energy Technology Co.
The company has enjoyed 1.64 million yuan in VAT refunds upon collection for products and services regarding the comprehensive utilization of resources. It has also received over 3.28 million yuan in VAT refunds after collection for pollution treatment.
In addition, Tianhe has been increasing tax support to help the construction of its four-level park system.
The South China National Botanical Garden, China's second national botanical garden, opened on July 11 in Tianhe. The district sorted out the corresponding preferential tax policies for the botanical garden in detail.
In the past two years, the "development of new varieties of high zeaxanthin marigold" and other technology projects of the botanical garden have enjoyed VAT exemptions for technology transfer and technology development contracts.
