Foreign investment flows into Tianhe
As of the end of April, Guangzhou's Tianhe district had 8,670 foreign-invested companies, accounting for 24.9 percent of the city's total. In 2021, it had 973 new foreign-invested enterprises, making up 26.6 percent of the city's total.
Hong Kong has been the primary source of foreign-funded enterprises in Tianhe. There are more than 3,000 Hong Kong-funded enterprises in the district, with the number of enterprises funded by Hong Kong and Macao accounting for about 62 percent of the district's total foreign-funded enterprises.

It now has gathered more than 200 projects invested in by Fortune Global 500 companies, while also being home to over 100 headquarters enterprises, 53 foreign consular agencies, 11 foreign chambers of commerce, as well as 32 regional headquarters of foreign banks like Citibank, Deutsche Bank, and HSBC.
The Tianhe central business district (CBD) has been one of the important platforms in Guangzhou to attract foreign investment. From January to September, Guangzhou's important platforms contributed 67 percent of the city's foreign capital actually used, which reached 44.01 billion yuan ($6.26 billion), increasing by 8.5 percent year-on-year.
