The Liede Street community has been selected to apply for an international community pilot project that represents Guangzhou's Tianhe district, local media outlets reported on July 29.

Guangzhou is now selecting 10 to 15 communities for the pilot project and they are expected to be an important fulcrum for Guangzhou's high-level opening up by 2035.

The 3.5-square-kilometer community clusters major Guangzhou public infrastructure and landmarks such as Guangzhou Museum, Guangzhou International Finance Center and the Tianhe central business district (CBD), which has an abundance of commercial buildings and is home to 103 of Fortune Global 500 companies.

It also has a convenient transport network with main roads like the Liede Avenue as well as metro lines like the Line 3 and Line 5.

Lots of cultural festivals and sports events such as the Guangzhou International Lighting Festival and the Guangzhou Marathon have been held in the community, while many tourist attractions including the Huacheng Square are also in the area.

In addition, Liede Street community is home to many foreign consulates and expats, and is becoming an important platform for cultural exchanges between Chinese and foreign residents.
