Guangzhou plans to raise the nitrogen oxide emission standard for gas boilers from 150 milligrams per cubic meter to 50 mg per cu m in 2023. These are the first batch of environmental protection agreements signed in the city.

Of the 28 units that the Tianhe branch of the Guangzhou municipal ecological environment bureau signed agreements with, 12 are industrial enterprises that have 17 gas boilers, 13 are hotels that have 26 gas boilers, two are hospitals that have four gas boilers, and one is a stadium that has two gas boilers. It is planned that six gas boilers will finish transformation by the end of June, 28 by the end of September, and 15 by the end of December, with a total investment of nearly 12 million yuan ($1.8 million). Upon completion, about 46.44 metric tons of nitrogen oxide will be reduced.
