Guangzhou's Tianhe district has been implementing measures to support the high quality development of technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with its number of tech SMEs above designated size ranking first in the city.

Tianhe has cooperated with the Guangdong branch of the Bank of China to launch the nation's first innovation loan, providing bond financing services for tech SMEs. To date, more than 1 billion yuan ($150 million) of credits has been granted.

Special training sessions were also jointly provided by the district, the southern center of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and the Guangzhou Service Base of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange to help tech SMEs use the multi-level capital market for financing.

The nation's first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation Board was jointly established by the district and the Guangdong Equity Exchange Center. More than 100 sci-tech achievements are being displayed on the board, which can promote the seamless connection between achievements and the capital market.

A tech enterprise incubation, cultivation, and innovation belt, ranging from makerspaces, incubators, accelerators, and industrial parks to provincial and national hi-tech zones, has been built in Tianhe, offering tech SMEs specialized and internationalized services.

The Guangzhou THero Global Startup Competition is a platform for Guangzhou and Tianhe district to connect with the global sci-tech innovation resources. Since its establishment, over 11,000 projects from 35 countries and regions around the globe have participated in it.
