The opening ceremony for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' South China Key Laboratory of Tropical Smart Agriculture Technology and the South China Agricultural University (SCAU) Rural Vitalization Research Institute base took place in Guangzhou's Tianhe district on April 19.

The base utilizes smart agriculture perception technology, algorithm models, as well as an equipment and precision control platform that is highly integrated with agricultural machinery and agronomy to create a platform for displaying, testing, application, and promotion of key achievements of the SCAU's advanced smart agriculture research. It also provides scientific and technological support for rural vitalization, as well as the agricultural industry's transformation and upgrading. It will realize the unmanned and paperless management of farms.

To date, the base's relevant achievements have served 36 local governments and enterprises, established 42 application bases in Guangdong province, as well as collected more than five million pieces of environmental and soil data through 156 intelligent services.
