"Finally, there are leisure places for walking, chatting and square dancing," said 75-year-old Ms Liao from Kemulang village in Fenghuang neighborhood.

The newly built community park covers an area of 1,900 square meters, with roads flanked by flame trees, osmanthus fragrans and camphorwood, creating a pleasant natural environment.

Besides, Fenghuang neighborhood has also built new sidewalks, installed guardrails and marked no-parking signs on major roads.

Mural paintings reflecting the featured culture and life of Hakka people were also painted on the nearly 300-sq-m walls in Kemulang village, which is one of the places in Guangzhou where Hakka people gather.

Uncultivated lands were used to build a number of small gardens, orchards, and vegetable farms, which are decorated with unified fences, guardrails, and fitness trails, offering a pastoral landscape.

Li Jitan, an elderly man who has lived in Yushatan village in Fenghuang neighborhood for over 17 years, has a deep feeling about the changes of the living environment.

The village roads were uneven, and there were numerous illegally parked vehicles, making it difficult for pedestrians to walk, according to Li.

"Now I walk on the smooth roads and feel much better. This is a real benefit brought by rural revitalization for the people," Li added.
