Guangzhou reports 1 new COVID-19 infection
Guangzhou confirmed one case of COVID-19 among people under quarantine on Feb 16.
The newly confirmed case is a 30-year-old Chinese male national who resides on Tiangui Road in Huadu district of Guangzhou. He came into close contact to the two confirmed non-local cases identified on Feb 15. He was later transferred to a centralized quarantine site on the same day.
Authorities also announced that genome sequencing of the two identified cases on Feb 15 were infected with the BA.2 Omicron sub-variant, which is 30 percent more infectious than the original BA.1 Omicron strain.
Nucleic acid test results of 112,153 people associated with venues of concern and the two previous cases all came back negative.
The local CDC reminded the public to get tested three times within a seven-day period if their health code turns yellow.
