Guangzhou’s Tianhe district opened 14 newly-build pocket parks on Wednesday, covering a total area of 1.2 million square meters, according to media reports.
Tianhe has renovated scattered and idle green space into city parks with different functions, said Zheng Peng, deputy head of Tianhe’s housing and urban-rural development bureau.

The parks have various themes, with some functioning as culture and art spaces, community gardens, science education spaces and rest areas for commuters.
Also, Tianhe is looking to further propel this project, aiming to ensure that every community in the district has a mini-park within 250 meters, Zheng added.
