The population of Tianhe is the youngest and most educated in Guangzhou province, and provides the district with abundant labour resources, according to the latest census.

Over the past decade, the educational level of Tianhe’s population has been gradually improving. The average number of years spent in schooling now comes in at 13.06 years - the longest among any of the city’s districts, as illustrated by data from the 7th population census, which was released in mid-June.

Residents aged from 15 to 59 number 1.79 million, 79.83 percent of Tianhe’s total population, making the average age just 33.2 years old.

The overwhelming majority of young and educated people are a significant boon to Tianhe's economic energy and development potential.

The census numbers also show that all of Tianhe’s permanent residents are urban residents.

But the Tianhe government has vowed to continue its urbanization work, which will focus on improving living standards.

The number of Tianhe residents aged 60 and above stands at 132,007, accounting for 5.89 percent of the total, lower than the international standards for an "ageing society", which is 7 percent.

Tianhe registered a population of 2.24 million in 2020, meaning it grew by 56.5 percent in the past decade.
