Guangdong Museum
Guangdong Museum was first built in 1957. The museum and its Guangzhou Lu Xun Memorial Hall were officially opened to the public on October 1, 1959.
At the beginning of the 21st century, in light of the museum construction boom nationwide and the need to further develop Guangdong Museum, the Guangdong provincial authorities decided in 2003 to commit 884.2 million yuan to build a new facility for the museum. The new facility is located within the Cultural and Art Square in the southern part of Zhujiang New Town on the new central axis of Guangzhou. It consists of four sections devoted to history, nature, art, and temporary exhibitions.
The new facility showcases the history and culture, art, and nature of Guangdong. The exhibits follow the principles of functionality, cost-effectiveness, originality, and soundness in an informative, scientific, and artistic manner, reflecting the uniqueness of Lingnan culture and the standard of the items in the Guangdong Museum's collection.
