Tianhe district's Shahe area is a distinctive old urban area which contains a number of wholesale markets and cultural institutions in its 1.65 square kilometers. In 2019, Shahe was renovated to build it an area for cultural creativity, cultural tourism, entertainment and daily life.

The renovation is expected to build the area into a national cultural export base in Tianhe and expand the cultural influence of the Shahe area.

The renovation adopted comprehensive improvement for most of the area with remaining parts demolished and rebuilt. It excavated space for the cultural industry and improved the quality of blocks; and the area will improve the living environments in old residential districts and urban streets.

Additionally, Shahe will formulate action plans to upgrade wholesale market transformation, space construction for the cultural industry, and improvement of quality of life and urban supporting facilities.
